Aftercare and questions
What to do in the first 48 hours, and the things people ask before they book.
Post op care
The first 48 hours
Your enamel is porous straight after a session, which means it takes on colour easily. What you do in the first two days decides how long the result holds.
Do this
First 48 hours
- Stick to white and clear foods: chicken, rice, pasta, white fish, potatoes, egg whites, bananas, cauliflower
- Drink water, clear soda, and milk
- Use a straw for anything that is not water
- Brush gently with a soft brush and a non whitening toothpaste
- Use a desensitizing toothpaste if your teeth feel tender
- Rinse with water after every meal
Avoid this
First 48 hours
- Coffee, tea, red wine, dark pop, juice
- Tomato sauce, curry, soy sauce, balsamic, mustard, beets
- Berries, chocolate, and coloured candy
- Smoking and vaping
- Coloured mouthwash and whitening toothpaste
- Lipstick and coloured lip balm
Keeping results: expect four to six months with normal habits. Rinse after coffee, use a straw for dark drinks, and book a Refresh when you notice it fading.
Questions
Good to know
Does it hurt?
Most clients feel nothing at all. Some notice mild sensitivity for a day or so afterward, which fades on its own. Tell us in advance if you have sensitive teeth and we will adjust the session accordingly.
How many shades will I go up?
Typically two to five, depending on your starting shade and what caused the staining. Coffee, tea, wine, and tobacco staining tends to respond well. We take a shade reading before and after so you see the change measured, not guessed.
What do you need at my place?
A sofa or a comfortable chair, an outlet, and a bit of counter or table space. That is it. We bring everything else, including the lamp and the full kit.
Where do you travel?
Oshawa across to Etobicoke, including Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Scarborough, North York, Pickering, Ajax, and Whitby. Further west, Mississauga, Brampton, and Milton are group bookings only, since the drive only makes sense for two or more. We do not take bookings in downtown Toronto.
Will it work on veneers, crowns, or fillings?
No. Whitening only lifts stains from natural enamel, so any dental work keeps its original colour. If you have work at the front of your smile, mention it before booking and we will tell you honestly what to expect.
Who should not book?
Anyone under 16, anyone pregnant or nursing, and anyone with active gum disease, untreated decay, or recent oral surgery. If you are unsure, check with your dentist first.
How long do results last?
Usually four to six months with normal habits, longer if you follow the aftercare and stay off staining food and drink for the first two days.
Do you sell take home whitening kits?
No, and that is deliberate. In ten years of doing this the same two things go wrong at home: the gel is left on far too long, and the gums are never properly barriered. That is what causes the burns and the lasting sensitivity people blame on whitening itself. We apply a liquid dam over the gum line before any gel goes on, and we time every set. If you want to keep the result going, book a Refresh.
How do I pay?
Cash or e transfer, paid at the end of your session. There is no deposit at the moment.
